CONCRETE WAVES:

Obligitory question 1: Do you still skate?

BB: As much as possible. I am a regular at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, where they have a very nice replica of the Upland Combi-Pool. I also skate this little city park in Westminster down the street from my house and am always up for any empty pool and pipe action. Lately we've been riding some metal 35-foot full pipes that were used to hold natural gas. They smell a bit stinky but are a blast to ride.

Obligitory question 2: Can you bust a kick-flip?

BB: If I worked at it, I could probably pull a heelflip. Shove-its are pretty solid. Definitely ollies though, because skating the hills of San Francisco, I learned that was a maneuver that definitely came in handy.

JPC: What are your thoughts on the State of Skating in 2001? Do you watch a new skate video and feel like one of those old time 70's skaters with the big AM radio earmuffs doing 360's and handstands? I know I do.

BB: No, I worked with a lot of the new skaters during my time at Thrasher and at Bluetorch. Just like the old style guys, I respect the dudes with power and style, and the ones that hold on come heck or high water. I'm really not into the type that are all about technical tricks. But if you can do something technical down a big handrail or off a big ledge or on a big ramp or in a deep pool, I'll give you credit.
